Yesterday was all about sustainability, we organized Eco Day. Students prepared workshops for their classmates about recycling and fast fashion. Together we have learnt how to recycle correctly and we took a closer look into the clothing industry - who and where were our clothes made. Talking about sustainability, we had our very first clothes swap. Students and teachers had an opportunity to bring in their unwanted clothes and swap them for a new pieces. This activity was a success. In the afternoon we welcomed a very special guests from the organization Youth for Equality. 10 interns discussed environmental and biological topics with our students. Even with small steps we can all contribute to protecting our planet.
dofe
Between June 12 and 13, after meeting their goals, the second and third year DofE program participants completed their training expedition. The seemingly simple route from Kálnica to Hubina gave us some trouble at times. In the end, we all managed it and with new experiences we are ready for the qualifying expedition that awaits us next week.
the Graduation party
Yesterday was a special event in the high school; the Graduation party of our last year student. As usual, we had mixed emotion, pride, a little sadness and of course the joy of seeing the successes of our young people stepping out on to their new path.
Throughout we have physical growrh but also seen the emotional strength and kindness of these young adults. They have become the best versions of themselves. People who will make our future world a brighter place
We are going to miss them immensely, but we cannot wait to hear about all of their triumphs #the besstisyettocome
three days on a course on protecting people and nature at the Záruby resort
Our third graders spent a pleasant three days on a course on protecting people and nature at the Záruby resort. Surrounded by mountains and in a place with no signal, the collective was best strengthened. The main point was hiking to Záruby and Ostrý Kamen, as well as an alternative walk around Smolenice. We crossed different terrains on the hiking trails and after 17 kilometers we all enjoyed the longed-for rest. The evenings included board games and various activities, including sitting by the campfire.
from the student's diary
Our journey began with a meeting of all participants in front of the manor house in Ivanka pri Dunaji - a beautifully restored complex of modern architecture. At the main entrance we were warmly welcomed by one of the academics at the college based in this very mansion. Together with one of her students at the College, she took us through the building explaining the roles, principles, pillars and benefits of the programme offered by the College. We then settled down together in the common room where seminars are held for the students. One of the methodologists of the Academy of Great Works graced us with his presence and we began the seminar on "Is lying bad?" It was a meaningful elaboration at a high level where we debated, exchanged views and tried to come to a conclusion together. We failed to do that, though, and so this question will be in the back of our minds for the rest of our lives. When the seminar was over, we thanked each other, took pictures and said our goodbyes, and then we left the grounds of the fabulous Ivanovo mansion.
A student company Allure
Allure, š.f., a student company producing and selling perfumes "For Her" and "For Him," covered by the organisation Junior Achievement Slovakia, reached the final stage of its business, which ended with the Final General Assembly. At the assembly, the financial results and overall evaluation of the company's activities were presented to its shareholders.
The young entrepreneurs went through difficult challenges, including marketing research, purchasing quality materials, production, marketing, sales, and competing at the Company competition in Bratislava.
The Annual Report was approved at the final General Assembly, which took place at the premises of SBG BESST. Several questions regarding the company's operation and financial results were asked. The shareholders received the nominal values of the purchased shares and dividends.
Although this project was demanding, difficult to organise, and time-consuming, it provided students with the opportunity to understand the basics of business, discover their organisational skills, and work effectively even under stress.
The students wish good luck to next year's student companies and, above all, encourage them not to give up!
preparing for the expedition as part of the DOfE
On Friday we spent the day preparing for the expedition as part of the DOfE training programme . First, we familiarised ourselves with the size of rucksack we would need. We each had to walk up and down the stairs with it a few times to get an idea of what to expect when negotiating the difficult terrain. Our next task was to learn how to set up a tent and to prepare a campfire safely. As part of the expedition we are expected to meet the conditions of the program, for example: to eat at least one hot meal a day. Then, we returned to the classroom where we learned about the rules for a successful mission. We are looking forward to the journey together and gaining new experiences and memories..
The morning hour has gold in its mouth
That is why, together with our BESST enthusiasts, we hiked to Skalnatá in Malé Karpaty. Not only did we move our bones, but we also spent pleasant moments barbecuing and getting to know each other. We enjoyed beautiful views and an amazing atmosphere with BESST family complemented by wonderful spring weather.
Mountains well and see you in a year.
The tradition of the egg hunt
The tradition of the egg hunt, combined with various competitions prepared for our children by our tenacious 'gymnasists' continues!
Although April did not disappoint in its reputation for crazy weather and a cold wind blew our hair all over, but nothing stopped us from enjoying a morning full of games and sporting feats worthy of Olympians.
Everyone took home a well-deserved medal.
From small seeds great trees grow
We celebrated the penultimate month of our BESST graduates.
A symbol of perseverance and hope, as well as, beauty thriving in adverse circumstances, the plum tree represents our vision for our students as they make roots in new soil.
Good luck, and flourish like you tree will surely do!
OUR STUDENT COMPANY AT THE TALENT FAIR 💪
The students of a third year, within the subject Applied Economics, who founded a real company Allure, s.c., simulating a joint-stock company, participated in the Company competition realised by the non-profit organization Junior Achievement Slovakia, in Bratislava's Avion.
This allowed them to compare their knowledge and experience with 51 other competing firms. Product presentation, annual report, marketing presentation on stage, financial management, and management team were challenging tasks that our students managed to handle. They also easily took part in a professional discussion with the CEO of JA Europe, Mr. Salvatore Nigro.
New experiences, impressions, but especially the acknowledgement that business is difficult and the competition is strong, strengthened the team of the student company Allure even more and added energy to other activities.
We wish young entrepreneurs success in achieving their goals, satisfied clients, and shareholders.
SPRING BALL 2023
As autumn rolls into spring SBG BESST decided to celebrate the first daffodils wih their very first spring ball. Student union worked really hard to create a fun atmosphere (and playlist of course) to ensure our family had the best time. A candy bar, mocktails and the announcment of the much anticipated King and Queen of the dance. Not to mention the tombolo which offered up a lot of prizes and surprises! Welcome to the warm months ahead and the warmness of friendships built on our special night!
OPEN HOUSE 2023
Yesterday, we reached for the moon and showed our esteemed guests our BESST selves. Our visitors learned from our students just what life in the SBG BESST community is really like. They joined in on our lessons, toured the school and met with our teachers to find out all of the facts about stadium in opur high bilingual school. And of course, no open house day is complete with out a range of healthy but delicious snacks. Overall the feedback was very positive and we are looking forward to a #bebetterbeBESSTfuture together with our new family members.
Dodge ball
Someone decided to spend the last day under a X-mas tree and someone in the gym.
We ended this school year with a dodge ball tournament. Eight teams competed for the title: The Dodger of the Year. Former high school students also came to show their team spirit.
Tense moments, many falls, but also exceptional sportsmanship kept the atmosphere of the matches up to the last minute. The following teams placed on the podium: 3. Trinkeťáci 2. Win-win 1. Saints dožbalisti. We congratulate the winners and wish everyone a blessed holiday and a happy New Year 2023.
SKI TRAININIG IN KAPRUN
Ski training 28.11 -02.12.2022
Good morning from Kaprun, Austria. It is our third day in this beautiful place. We`re staying in a cozy Austrian hotel ZUR BURG where we are enjoying delicious food and wellness. And yet, the best activity we all appreciate here is skiing in the breathtaking Alps. Check out some of our photos
TEAMBUILDING NIGHT
SBG BSU, our student Union took to the kitchen in our first ever teambuilding night. They cooked off against each other in a nail biting kitchen saga. Alas, all of the offerings were equally delicious so we concluded that they are all winners.
VISITE OF GENETIC LABORATORY
On Friday some of our Year 4 and 5 Biology and Psychology students visited Komenskeho's Genetics Laboratory. Students were extremely excited (and nervous!) to use and play with equipment worth tens of millions of euros. They learned about genetic tests used to identify Downs Syndrome prenatally and non-invasively and learned about the COVID systems used by the lab to monitor COVID transmission across Slovakia.
Theater performance - Christmas Carol
On Wednesday 2.11. we visited the English theater performance in Bratislava with the high school classes I, II and III - Christmas Carol. Actors from the theater company AMERICAN DRAMA GROUPE EUROPE (ADGE) based in Munich and also BRITISH THEATER COMPANY - (TNT Theater Britain) introduced themselves to us. The theatrical adaptation of the famous story by Charles Dickens took us from the pages of books to gloomy London, where we followed the story of a bitter rich man named Ebenezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas. Values such as selflessness, humanity, decency, kindness and love will not leave the viewer cold. The most beautiful story of the great English storyteller from 1843 is still able to captivate and appeal to readers all over the world.
WE OPENED OUR DOORS
SBG BESST opened its doors to reveal the sky of opportunities awaiting future students.
Guests learned from the head teacher and our current students about the Cambridge system, the many clubs and activities on offer as well as the optional subjects available for students to shape their own dreams.
Our year 4 student MKD shared his passion for astronomy and even brought in his gigantic telescope!
There was a lot of questions and interactions and we hope that all of our visitor gained an insight into the universe of our high school.
We look forward to seeing you at our next open house day in March!
DAY OF OPPORTUNITIES
At the end of october, our annual "Day of opportunities".
Students in lower grades completed workshops on the possibilities of high school study abroad (organization Interstudy) and language stays focused on the development of language skills in Spanish, German and English (organization Education first).
Students in higher years completed workshops aimed at studying at foreign universities (organization Interstudy and Unilink), which suitably supplemented their information on the possibilities of university studies, as they recently visited the GAUDEAMUS post-baccalaureate study fair.
