DAY OF OPPORTUNITIES

At the end of october, our annual "Day of opportunities".

Students in lower grades completed workshops on the possibilities of high school study abroad (organization Interstudy) and language stays focused on the development of language skills in Spanish, German and English (organization Education first).

Students in higher years completed workshops aimed at studying at foreign universities (organization Interstudy and Unilink), which suitably supplemented their information on the possibilities of university studies, as they recently visited the GAUDEAMUS post-baccalaureate study fair.

HALLOWEEN

Friday , SBG got spooky on with high schoolers wearing outfits to rival a Broadway production of, ‘Halloween’. After a scavenger hunt we took part in an eerie escape room, following the clues to solve a murder case. It was fun to put all of the pieces together.

The rest of the evening was spent dancing, watching movies and enjoying quality time with each other. We then slept over at school.

HERZLICH WILLKOMMEN AUF DEM OKTOBERFEST

Language is linked to culture and tradition, so it enhances our deeper understanding of a country's culture.

In order to get to know the German traditional Oktoberfest festival more closely, we organized a private one here at SBG BESST.

Oktoberfest is the largest beer festival in the world and is organized in Munich. It must be said that we didn't have any beer, but what we did have was an experience that offered us an insight into the culture of this beautiful and diverse country. In addition to various lectures, where we had the opportunity to learn what is behind the production of beer, we also learned various German expressions and for a gourmet experience we created a feast of traditional dishes.

There was a popular pretzel, and we even made our own apple strudel from scratch. The first use of the apple press was difficult at first and our hands hurt, but the end result was excellent!

DON'T DESTROY YOUR BODY AND MIND

Students I.A and I.B were treated to an innovative projection, which drew them into thinking about the issue of addictions and about responsibility not only for one's own life.

Anti-drug train - so-called Revolution train offers a primary prevention program for pupils, which is guaranteed not to be boring.

The unique environment of the train creates the possibility of immediate informal discussion with peers, teachers and experts. Thanks to the unusual environment and strong feelings, such a debate is livelier, more open and more honest than during a classic lecture on school grounds.

The students were involved in a real story that experientially guided them through the entire process from the onset of drug addiction to the consequences that await a person addicted to drugs in life.

The interactive approach offered young people a space to think about the dangers of legal and illegal drugs.

Through anonymous questionnaires, they could confide about their experiences with alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.

Travel diary vol.2

In contrast to the gloomy atmosphere of Auschwitz, the next day we visited the Energylandia amusement park, which was located about 50 kilometers from our accommodation in the Vienna House Easy hotel in Krakow.

We awakened our enthusiasm, put aside our fears and stepped into a place of miracles with a varied selection of roller coasters, carousels and various delicacies.

On the way back, several students on the bus took up our time with their stand-up performances and announcements about school matters. Upon arrival, dinner awaited us and later a free parting in the wonderful night Krakow, during which we created other unforgettable experiences.

We got to know Denný Krakow in the presence of a guide who told us about the history and attractions of the city. We bought a few trinkets and went to visit the nearby Wieliczka Salt Mine. This experience was completely different, the beautiful premises of the salt mine are often used for various formal events. The salt is really salty, and we saw it for ourselves on the spot.

We all returned home alive and well. It was an unforgettable trip that we all thoroughly enjoyed together.

LEARN FROM HISTORY

On October 5, students of the second, third and fifth years of our high school went on a foreign trip to Auschwitz and Krakow in Poland. After a six-hour bus journey, we arrived at the museum of the Auschwitz concentration camp, through which the guide took us.

These places became a sad memento of the crimes that were committed during the Second World War, during which countless numbers of people died.

The excursion had a total length of three hours, during which we visited not only Auschwitz I, but also Auschwitz II - Birkenau, where we saw preserved buildings and authentic artifacts from eighty years ago.

One must not forget one's history. One can only hope that society has already learned its lesson from these horrific crimes against humanity that trampled on the most basic universal human rights such as the right to life, personal liberty and security, and nothing like this will ever happen again.

The excursion to Auschwitz will be an experience that will be etched in our memories forever.

ON THE WAY FOR EDUCATION

Last week, our fourth and fifth year students had the opportunity to participate in the Gaudeamus European post-baccalaureate and lifelong education fair in Bratislava.

In Incheba, Bratislava, they visited the stands of universities and trade unions in which they have a preliminary interest.

Their questions were answered by experts and students from universities from Slovakia, the Czech Republic and other European countries.

We took home a lot of new information, materials and inspiration.

NON UNIFORM DAY

is a well-known " in our school but a less well-known " is a day called "anything but a backpack day".

Which means we get the chance to go a little crazy with our creativity and think outside the box.

Check out these amazing alternatives for monotonous everyday luggage. The main role is played by our high school students and their diversity.

Visit of theather production

On 26.9. students from the first to fourth year of our grammar school participated in the theatrical production of the work, Kým kohút nezaspieva by the Slovak author Ivan Bukovčan. Since this work is among the compulsory literature intended for secondary schools, the students benefited from being able to enjoy this impressive story live thanks to the talented actors, who have played this incenation in cinema Hviezda in Trnava. In many students, this production evoked a feeling of catharsis and countless philosophical questions regarding the morality of people, the importance of an individual's social position in society, and identity. "Against violence, one has only one chance . . . to remain human . . . not to become a rag. To keep one's dignity . . . and one's human face."

Adaptation course

HOW ARE YOU DOING? WHAT IS BEHIND IT?

Children spend a lot of time at school, and it is important that they feel comfortable there. Therefore, we also think about improving the quality of their relationships and building a community .

During the adaptation course in Skalica, our youngest high school students spent full time together and, in addition to the activities, developed cooperation, inspired each other and created.

They tried climbing in the treetops, they managed to walk to Mlýnky before the rain, they enjoyed the evening by the fire, and there was also crispy fried "spečačka".

The purpose of the trip was fulfilled, the students made friends and had a pleasant stay in nature.

STEAM WORKSHOP

Our students had a special STEAM workshop in the week 19-23.09.2022.

We invited teacher of mechatronics Roger Berry who taught them the basics of circuits. The aim is to teach students how to use their theoretical knowledge from electronics and apply it in real life by creating various circuits composed of resistors, thermistors, diodes, light-depending resistors, potentiometers, and operational amplifiers. The workshop is terminated by a final project using their acquired knowledge and creativity.

CEREMONY TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR 2021/2022

Irving Stone once said:

“Each of us has his own alphabet with which to create poetry.” And, this year has indeed been poetic. At times an epic, at others a sonnet and in others, almost a limerick. This poetry of ours we create together as our words collide and we together push forward into our next stanza.

We would like to thank to our teachers for their dedication and commitment to supporting the lives of our next generation, of working tirelessly and always having the student’s best interests at heart.

Big thanks belongs to our students. We are proud of all that you have achieved so far.

Eko day

The goal was to draw attention to ocean pollution. Quiet underwater world and sea turtles. People realize that the situation is alarming, there are more and more injured turtles. They are often injured due to water pollution, for example by swallowing garbage or a piece of plastic bag. That's why we and students of SBG Besst, Ms Hayley and natives, in cooperation with Ms Adel and the Speech and Art Therapy Center, decided to conceive EkoDay creatively using plastic waste materials and create a large turtle and turn the staircase into an ocean full of underwater life. 

BESSTed

BESSTed was an opportunity. Not just for the students who tested their presentation skills in front of an audience and discussed a variety of topics about the future. But also for parents and teachers - to see their children and students in the role of speakers. Thank you for your participation and support. We hopt ot see you next year!

ALLEY OF THE GRADUATES

This is how we planted the first linden tree in our alley.

Phillyra (the Greek name of the linden tree) was a nymph that the gods turned into a tree, after she asked them not to be sent to humans.

We hope that the tree will thrive as well as our graduates, because it was planted with love and great determination of our students from year 5. We hope that one day as adults they will come back to pick dried flowers to make a good linden tea.

ART DAY

On Friday, April 29, 2022,student union, led by Ms Adel collaborated artistically through encaustic and glass painting. This type of artistic creation helps maintain inner balance and focuses on the development of creative and emotional development and interpersonal relationships. Each class of years I. - III. painted their class painting on large glass. Also, each student created their own image with encaustics (melted wax art). By combining all the pictures, a breathtaking mosaic was created. Soon you will be able to see the works of our students in the SBG BEST.

WE CELEBRATED A MONTH OF BOOKS TOGETHER

March is the month of the books and our students decided to celebrate it with a short performance they prepared for kids in our kindergarten.

They rehearsed a fairy-tale theater about a miraculous mug for preschoolers, who recieved a small healthy gift at the end.

Such fun activities remind us how beautiful it is when older students spend time with the little ones.

WE FIGHT AGAINST FOOD WASTE

Did you know that 20-40% of the food produced globally, intended for human consumption is never eaten? Food waste is a global problem that needs to be discussed with the younger generation.

Therefore, we organized an online lecture for our high school students from IA and IB classes, where they learned interesting information and connections on the issue of food waste.

FINANCIAL OLYMPIAD

Our students measured their level of financial literacy.

As we support entrepreneurship and economic and financial knowledge at our school, Year 3-4 students participated in the first round of the Financial Olympiad. In addition to testing their financial literacy, they also gained new knowledge that will help them in the next rounds of the Olympiad.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for them and we look forward to their further success.

Training of managerial skills

Our pupils participated in the training of managerial skills for the management of a student company within the program Applied Economics

The training program focused on developing the foundations of management skills by AT&T lecturers.

President and vice-presidents of our BEST student company cleanbo, š.f. they received valuable advice in the field of goal setting, their monitoring and evaluation, as well as in the field of leadership and, last but not least, in the field of project management.
