After a relaxing summer it was wonderful to be reunited with my class! They all looked fantastic in their uniforms and made me really look forward to spending the year ahead with them on new adventures. However, I was somewhat disappointed as during the course of the summer months they have all seemed to have grown considerably and now I am the shortest in my class! Apart from that it was a very happy morning!
During our chemistry lesson we were exploring medical plants from various points of view. We discussed advantages and disadvantages and also risks of using them in daily life. Students spoke about plants they usually use at home and also expressed their opinion on using natural versus synthetic drugs. Discussion was pretty interesting and inspirational.
High leaders in IIIA received a visit from the Cat Deposit Agency today; where they learned about the life of abandoned cats, the difference between a feral and stray cat and what we can do if we come across a sick cat on the street. We also collected a range of cat foot, toys and blankets as our way of giving back to the volunteers who work at, Mackey & Maciatka to help keep Trnava’s homeless cats healthy.
Students from our Year 3 will become a proffesional researchers. On biology lessons we are studying genetics so we decided to participate in the project called ‚Genetics on wheels‘. We made a video about a specific genetical issue and we were chosen. Scientists will come with their laboratory. We are looking forward to meet them and to do experiments with them.
Students of IIIA put their BESST foot forward in their attempt to match the 38,680 steps needed to reach the peak of Kilimanjaro in Africa. On Friday 29th September, they received a Skype call from a teacher in England who intends to climb the great Mountain in July 2018 and found out a bit more about her motivation.
Today they learned about the Nasir Trust and the plight of children who have been left abandoned or scared by illness. After that, they looked at how much money a typical Kenyan family receives and tried to figure out how they would balance the books. Of course, we had to experience a ‘mountain climb’ so, with pedometers in hand we hit the stairs! Who will be closest to achieving the steps needed to conquer the peak? We’ll find out next week! The challenge has been set!
Being a leader isn’t just about being the best that you can be, it’s about inspiring others to achieve their full potential, collaborating and respecting a diverse range of people.
IIIa Global Perspectives students tried this out first hand in a two lesson project where they learnt to behave as if they were from other cultures conducting business – They even learnt a new language!
One team was from Na and the other from Za. First, they learnt their own culture and then they had to figure out the cultural nuances of the other team before attempting to complete a transaction with them.
As they tried to navigate new rules students learnt about the trials of cross-cultural communication, discussed the challenges faced in the real world and ultimately worked together to find a solution.
As for inspiration – Zhanna and Sasha were dedicated cultural leaders, learning the nuances of the culture prior to the lessons and explaining them to their new teams.
V dňoch 11.09.2017 až 13.09.2017 absolvovali študenti III.A nášho gymnázia tzv. KOČAZ, teda Kurz ochrany človeka a zdravia v prostredí pohoria Javorníkov.
Aj keď počasie nebolo vždy naklonené našim plánom všetci sme si to užili a mali výborný pocit z pobytu v nádhernej prírode.
